WAKULLA COUNTY, FL (WTXL) -- The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office is hoping to save thousands of dollars with the installation of new LED lighting around the jail.
The department said that each of the 27 lighting units cost about $200 but they expect that they will make that money back in 14 months.
The new lights will replace the old fixtures and uses one-third of the amount of electrical power, said the department.
Sheriff Charlie Creel approved the project as a way to continue to cut costs and save taxpayers money. The department has already installed new LED lighting inside the building and said that it saves about $1,000 a month.
