COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - The fate of Cook Medical Center has been sealed: county commissioners have voted to replace the hospital with a new facility.
Officials say that emotions were high on Monday as commissioners voted 5-0 to support the project with Tift Regional Health System (TRHS) through a 30-year financial commitment.
The new replacement facility will be located off of I-75 at Exit 37 where the Georgia Forestry Commission is located now.
The Georgia Forestry Commission will be relocated to Brooks County.
This vote comes after years of discussions between Cook County commissioners and the TRHS, dating back as far as 2015.
