TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County and Tallahassee are very beautiful and diverse places. However, when it comes to the economic diversity, that does not bode well for our crime rates.
"You have to look at this is one of America's most economically segregated communities," said Bill Proctor, the Leon County commissioner for district 1. "Until we look at the economic segregation in Tallahassee, we can expect these kinds of occurrences."
Although Commissioner Proctor believes that money, drugs, and mental health are key factors in the county's crime rates, law enforcement officials have yet to disclose motives for the most recent homicide cases.
What we do know about the number of homicides for 2017 is that Leon County Sheriff's Office has worked four cases, where one was a double murder.
The Tallahassee Police Department has also worked a number of cases which brings the total number of deaths to at least eighteen this year alone.
"Some of these things that are occurring, no matter the effort people will nut up," said Proctor. "People will just misbehave. No matter what we do, some of this is almost inevitable.
