LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County and the City of Tallahassee kicked of the 2018 Neighborhood Recognition Program Thursday.

The program highlights neighborhoods doing great things in both the city and county.

The meeting was held right in the 2017 Tallahassee Neighborhood of the Year, Levy Park.

Residents of Levy Park and the Bond Community addressed attendees as well as Leon Commissioner at Large Nick Maddox, Mayor Pro Temp Curtis Richardson, and the Executive Director of Sustainable Tallahassee about how crucial it is to continue to uplift neighborhoods throughout.

"It's so important that we recognize these communities that are doing amazing things," said Maddox. "If you are a neighborhood or a neighbor doing great things, put your name in the hat and I think you'll be very happy about what you get from being neighbor or neighborhood of the year. "

And there's a new honor this year, Sustainable Neighborhood of the Year. To apply, visit talgov.com or www.leoncountyfl.gov/.
