TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County and the City of Tallahassee are teaming up to make housing more affordable.

WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Wednesday morning. She told how the community can get actively involved.

Anyone can join the Housing Leadership Council to find the best fit for affordable housing in Leon County.

The county and city brought in United Partners for Human Services to use their resources on the topic of affordable housing and to help coordinate the conversation and find the best possible way to address it.

An informational meeting about the council is putting stakeholders together to talk about collaboration and what is needed to think about this issue longterm.

Members for the council will include anyone in the community, but is strongly marketed towards non profits, lenders, banks, and contractors.

Amber R. Tynan of United Partners for Human Services Executive Director commented.

"We know, research does show that if you don't have a safe or shelter over your head, you're not going to be productive over other areas of your life," Tynan said. "So how can we as a community with our government parterns as well as the various sectors help combat this issue and makme it more prevalent for everyone living here."

Tynan mentions that those who are in need of affordable housing are also a crucial component to the council because they are the ones who know what is most needed.

If you would like to learn more about the council, they're holding an informational meeting at the American Red Cross in Tallahassee from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday.
