TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--You can take part in a challenge to see if you could survive a month in poverty.
It's a free virtual, interactive simulation, all taking place at the Tallahassee Senior Center on Wednesday.
The goal is to expand your understanding of obstacles faced by community members living on, and below the poverty line.
Those interested in attending, team up to become a family living on a limited income. The family then lives through the month (a one hour period) dealing with volunteers who represent bill collectors, employers, schools, healthcare services and social service agencies.
It's hosted by the Tallahassee/Leon County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls community task force and the United Way of the Big Bend.
The simulation is from 6-8 p.m. Participants are asked to check in between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The event is free. If you want to participate you're asked to call The Oasis Center for Women and Girls at 850.222.2747 to register.
