JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL)--A Cottondale man was arrested for beating his girlfriend.
Jackson County deputies say John Ellis Floyd was arguing with his girlfriend.
They say the argument escalated and he threatened her with a handgun.
Deputies say choked her and then hit her with the end of the gun, shooting a hole in the floor to prove to her it was loaded.
The woman tried to call for help, but Floyd took the phone away from her and broke it. A sibling of the victim and niece came to help. According to deputies, Floyd pointed the handgun at them.
He then allegedly told them to get the victim's belongings. Deputies say he put down the handgun and went in the bedroom where the victim gathered her things.
Deputies say he hit her again, and at that time her sibling grabbed the handgun and they left.
Floyd followed them in a vehicle. He was later arrested at his home, and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility. He's charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, felony battery, tampering, and using a firearm while in the commission of a felony.
