Franklin County, GA (FOX Carolina) - Franklin County Deputy Coroner Clayton Bryan said  former NASCAR driver James Hylton and his son were killed in a car accident Saturday morning.

Bryan said Hylton and his son were passengers in a GMC truck that crashed into a creek bank. The incident occurred on I-85 northbound near exit 164.

According to the coroner's office, the truck was pulling a trailer carrying a race car and tools.

The driver of the truck was rescued and taken to a hospital in Greenville, Bryan said.

Hylton and his son, James Hylton Jr., were both from Inman.

An autopsy has been scheduled for a later date.
