Winn-Dixie won't be requiring customers to wear mask inside its stores, the corporation confirmed to several news outlets on Thursday.

Instead, the chain will be "strongly encouraging" customers to wear masks, ABC affiliate WZVN reports. They say they want to avoid causing “undue friction between our customers and associates by regulating mask mandates.”

"Currently, we are adhering to all local safety mandates within each of our stores and strongly encouraging those who are medically able to wear a face covering to do so," Joe Caldwell, the director of corporate communications and government affairs at Southeastern Grocers, Winn-Dixie's parent company, said in an email to WZVN.
