Tifton City Council passes mask mandate, schools excluded

TIFTON, Ga. (WTXL) — The Tifton City Council passed a city-wide mask mandate during a special called meeting Monday night.

The mandate passed three to two votes, as city officials grappled with how police would enforce it and how it would be enforced where city and county lines blurred.

This mandate does not apply to school property.

"We will continue to follow our mitigation strategies with regards to wearing masks when physical distancing is a challenge," Tift County Schools said in a statement released on Facebook.

This follows the city mandate on Aug. 21 that required the use of masks in city government buildings.
