LANIER COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — In a letter to parents Tuesday, Lanier County Schools announced that schools will be closed starting Dec. 16, in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 amidst rising cases.

The school district also said that schools will be reopening virtually on Jan. 11, 2021, for all students, with face-to-face instruction resuming on Jan. 19, 2021.

Each school will also distribute Chromebooks and/or learning packets for students on Jan. 8, 2021, according to the letter.

Additionally, the school day will be extended to 7:50 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Jan. 19, 2021, for what the district calls “instructional purposes.”

The letter to parents was released via the district's Facebook page.
