TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — On Saturday afternoon, Gov. Ron DeSantis released a video on his Twitter giving Floridians an update on how the COVID-19 vaccination process is going statewide.

The video, running at about three and a half minutes long, was mostly a review of all the things Gov. DeSantis and the state have been doing since vaccines began to arrive in Florida last month.

One major overarching message was simple from Gov. DeSantis: Florida is prioritizing seniors in the fight against the pandemic.

"In Florida, we are putting our seniors first," said Gov. DeSantis. "We have more than 4.5 million seniors in the state, and prioritizing them for the vaccine is the most effective tool we have to battle the pandemic."

The governor also said in the video that the COVID-19 vaccine has been delivered to all 67 county health departments and hospitals in every region across the state, while also acknowledging a limited supply from the federal government.

"Though supplies of the vaccine from the federal government remain limited, we are remaining aggressive to stay ahead of the curve," said Gov. DeSantis. "So that when supply does come, our infrastructure will be able to process it."

According to the governor in the video, Florida is now averaging more than 40,000 vaccination shots per day and said they are prepared to increase that number.

"Demand is high for the vaccine and we know that there is no time to waste when it comes to getting shots in arms," concluded Gov. DeSantis. "We will continue to provide updates and fight for you and your well-being."

The video comes a day after a group of bipartisan Florida lawmakers sent a letter asking Gov. DeSantis to update them on the COVID-19 vaccination process in the state.
