GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Gainesville police say a 52-year-old man became so angry when a woman threatened to change the television channel that he grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly smashed her head against the wall.

The incident happened Sunday night and Roosevelt Franklin remained in the Alachua County Jail early Tuesday on $50,000 bail. He faces charges of felony battery and resisting a police officer.

The Gainesville Sun reports the victim told police Franklin had battered her before. She had bruises near her right eye and forehead and a laceration on her leg.

Franklin told authorities the victim and another woman disturbed him while he was watching television. He said he didn't harm the woman and that the injuries were likely the result of an earlier fall.
