Convicted Child Rapist Gets 2 Life Terms for Stranglings

Posted

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A convicted child rapist already serving three life sentences has received two more for killing two women.

As part of a deal with Volusia County prosecutors to avoid the death penalty, 46-year-old James Maxwell pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Maxwell strangled 27-year-old Chasity Starr in January 2011 and buried her body behind his Port Orange home. He also strangled 48-year-old Pamela Will, whose body was found in an Ormond Beach ditch near Maxwell's former workplace.

Officials say both women had been prostitutes.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://goo.gl/tcgg2X ) reports that Maxwell was previously convicted of kidnapping and raping a 9-year-old neighbor girl.
