TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Work continues at the Tallahassee Mall, and businesses are asking you not to forget about them.

Interior demolition work began in September and the city expects that work to take about another month. But despite that construction, some of the businesses say they're still open.

"We are here to stay. We are not going anywhere," said Kim Wolfe, Community Business Development Manager for Barnes and Noble. "We've got a lot of exciting stuff coming up for the holidays."

The mall's sale was finalized to Tallahassee Retail Venture in June. Wolfe says Barnes and Noble is one of several businesses you can still find at the mall, even though construction may have some customers confused.

"We still are, as you can see, you know a hub for students to come in when they want to study, to shop, we've got the café that's doing well," said Wolfe.

Barnes and Noble has been in their space at the mall since 1997. Wolfe says they have long-term plans to stay.

"We just want everyone to know that we are still here," said Wolfe, "we're not going anywhere and we're looking forward to a great holiday season."

The City of Tallahassee says demolition work that began in September will continue for about another month, but they've just approved another permit to demolish a portion inside that will include the food court area. The city also conditionally approved a site plan that includes a proposed amphitheater.

Wolfe says even though business is a bit slower than usual for now, she's excited to see the final project.

"We do expect to benefit from the mall construction and the revitalization of everything that's going on, so we are definitely expecting an increased visibility and increased traffic," said Wolfe.

The city also says they received an environmental permit application last month to make changes outside the mall. They suggested some adjustments and expect to see a revised application for that work soon.
