TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A new system upgrade by the CDA will focus on making dispatchers more efficient while keeping first responders safe from hazardous situations.

The Consolidated Dispatch Agency is setting out to make it easier for dispatchers to give out information that may be critical to first responding officers by implementing a new system with features that are focused on warning officers about critical incidents.

Updating premise hazard alerts is a top priority, said Director Dee Crumpler of Consolidated Dispatch in Leon County, in keeping the community and first responders safe from incidents in which they may be put in danger.

The most significant addition to the current dispatch system is the new "Stop to Go" feature. With the new update, whenever a critical incident is recognized, the screen will turn red and stop the system. The dispatcher will then have to recognize and notify the dispatched officers before they can proceed. This will help save lives and prevent first responders from getting injured, said Crumpler.

In preparation for the new system, the CDA has done numerous tests before giving the "ok" for roll out. Crumpler says in the past months they have reviewed all systems and done field testing to ensure they system is as efficient as possible. They have also made sure to prepare for plenty of back ups in the event that any problems with the new system should occur, including a default to the old system.

Preparation for the new system has been what Crumpler calls "an arduous process" over the last several years. However, with the collaborative efforts of the CDA, EMS, Fire Department, and others, he says it has been a full team effort to get it done in the last 6 months.

According to Crumpler, the CDA's new system should help law enforcement and dispatchers keep first responders safe while reducing time for entering and dispatching information.

The new system is set to roll out Monday morning, June 20th at 3am.
