TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee's Market Square is working on a new look as developers try to re-energize the once popular destination.

Since 1986, Connie's Hams has been right here at the corner of Market Square.

But in a few months, the lights will be turned off for good and the building will be torn down.

It's the end of a drawn-out process. The owner here said it's been three years of uncertainty, but this week, developers told her it's finally time to move out.

"It gives us closure. We were hoping for a different result, because before the people who actually bought the center came around, they said everybody that was here would have the opportunity to stay. And, you know, things have just changed over the past three years since they bought it, and we don't have the opportunity to stay now," said Jill Richter, Owner of Connie's Hams. "We've seen families grow, children grow up, get married, more children come on. We're just a big family around here. Everybody knows everybody's name when they come to Connie's Hams."

The owner showed us an email from the developers. Connie's Hams will have to leave by the end of May, so crews can start demolition.

Developers said when they renovate the shopping center, they'd be open to a new lease with Connie's. But for now, time is running out on a Market Square staple.

Connie's Hams will close its location on Market Square on May 17.

The owner says she's hoping another opportunity will pop up to keep the business alive.
