TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M University hosted Congressman Steve Southerland and former Congressman J.C. Watts. Both were on hand for an informal roundtable discussion about the new Black Television News Channel (BTNC).

It was not a public meeting, however various members of university staff were on hand. A focal point is the launch of BTNC, a new 24 hour television news network that will be hosted at FAMU.

Southerland and Watts were given a tour of the facilities where future construction will take place for the television network. Steve Southerland told WTXL ABC 27 that it is an exciting time for the university, but its also a make or break period for the television network.

"They've got to sink or swim on their own merit, " said Southerland, "they can't survive if they aren't producing value and that value has got to attract people and it's got to continue to attract investment and continue to attract perhaps advertisers to fund that operation so that's part of the deal."

BTNC is expected to launch late next year.
