TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- Vet Events Tally will not allow the handing out of Confederate flags for the Veterans Day parade but some flags will still be allowed.
The leader of Vet Events Tally said he's more concerned on the controversy surrounding the use and the distribution of the flags rather than what the parade stands for.
According to Joe West, the president of Vet Events Tally, originally they [Vet Events Tally] allowed the Sons of Confederate Veterans to hand out the flags. But at the request of the NAACP, the organization will no longer allow the group to hand out the flags. But that doesn't mean the flag will be gone from the parade altogether.
"[There are] three or four different entries in the Veteran's Day Parade that involve Civil War Era organization", said West. "They will be allowed to continue to fly those flags. They will not leave. They will not be removed from the parade at anyone's request."
West also added that he is upset that the issue has such a high level of attention and that it is getting in the way of what he thinks should be highlighted, which is the parade itself and the work to get it running.
WTXL reached out to the NAACP to ask if the changes satisfied them or if they wanted to get rid of the flag altogether, but we have yet to receive a response.
