ATLANTA (AP) - The Center for Biological Diversity is giving away condoms to discuss the impact human population growth and consumption has on endangered animals.

Officials say the condoms will be distributed in Georgia and 27 other states Saturday for World Population Day, which was established by the United Nations to discuss population issues.

Officials say condom packages will feature endangered animals in each state and Georgia's will feature the whooping crane.

Leigh Moyer of the Center for Biological Diversity says it's imperative to discuss preserving marshland from development and urban sprawl. According to the National Wildlife Federation, the cranes nearly went extinct because of habitat loss and hunting.

Officials say volunteers are planning to distribute 10,000 condoms at festivals, farmers markets and other local events.
