TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Figg Bridge Engineering, who was in charge of building the newly-installed pedestrian bridge that collapsed Thursday, is based out of Tallahassee.
We were able to grab a couple of pictures from their website before the site was taken down.
We asked to speak with Mrs. Linda Figg, the Tallahassee chamber listed contact, but she was unavailable to speak.
When asked about obtaining a statement regarding the bridge collapse in South Florida, a woman on the phone said we have no comment at this time.
They are the same company that designed the Cascades Park Bridge that goes through South Monroe Street in Tallahassee.
In a statement, Figg Engineering says,
“We are stunned by today’s tragic collapse of a pedestrian bridge that was under construction over Southwest Eighth Street in Miami. Our deepest sympathies are with all those affected by this accident. We will fully cooperate with every appropriate authority in reviewing what happened and why. In our 40-year history, nothing like this has ever happened before. Our entire team mourns the loss of life and injuries associated with this devastating tragedy, and our prayers go out to all involved.”
Steve Shafer, City of Tallahassee Engineer, made a statement reassuring the public that they should have no concerns regarding the Capital Cascades Crossing pedestrian bridge:
"We want to reassure the public that we have no concerns regarding the safety of the Capital Cascades Crossing pedestrian bridge. While the design engineer for this bridge was the same firm involved in the bridge that collapsed in Miami, there are otherwise few similarities between the structures. It should be noted that the Miami bridge collapsed prior to completion of its installation while ours has been in place for nearly two years.
While we are comfortable that the Tallahassee bridge is safe, we have reached out to FDOT to perform an inspection of the bridge out an abundance of caution. We will also be requesting the design engineer to perform a more comprehensive assessment of the bridge in the near future."

This is a developing story.
