TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The community is fighting to end diabetes one step at a time, as they raise money for the Prince Hall Shriners National Diabetes Initiative.

For the 10th year, Ahmed Temple #37 held the 2018 Stepping for Diabetes Walk to raise awareness while helping those battling the disease.

There was a three mile walk and free health screenings.

"We don't have to just be a victim of diabetes. If we take action, personal action, we also can fight the disease and help make our lives better through exercise, diet, and things of that nature," said Ricardo Scruggs of Ahmed Temple #37.

The event's goal is to highlight the positive affects exercise and healthy eating have on people with diabetes.

Since 2008, Ahmed Temple #37 has helped raise more than $900,000 for research and education.
