TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Dozens gathered in downtown Tallahassee Saturday for the sixth annual Walk Through Living History Festival.

It was held by the Second Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops.

The event is held in honor of the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery in Florida in 1865.

"It's impossible for us to make an educated decision about our future, if we fail to forget our past," said Sgt. Major Jarvis Rosier Sr. "Our past is part of our history, we can't do anything about our past but we can shape our future."

The organization will be holding their eighth annual Emancipation and Abolitionist Ball on May 18.
