TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--It was a ceremony fit for a king at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church. Longtime Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell was laid to rest Tuesday.

Sheriff Campbell served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.

Joe West with Vet Events Tally says he was a big supporter of the work they do.

“He's going to be sorely missed,” said West. "I don’t know who the next sheriff will be, but whoever it is, is going have some big boots to fill.”

The sheriff spent more than 50 years of his life in law enforcement.

"He was fair, honest,” said Early Harris, who also attended the funeral.

The year 2014 was a tough one. The sheriff’s office just lost a deputy in the line of duty. Now sheriff Campbell after battling cancer like a true champion will rest in peace. His legacy though, will live on forever.
