LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A Lowndes County deputy is being laid to rest after he was killed in a crash Saturday night in the line of duty.

It's been difficult day for many people in the Lowndes County community.

Chris Butler touched so many lives. He worked at the sheriff's office for a little over a year according to the sheriff but in that time he gained the reputation of being a hard working deputy.

But his life cut too soon.

Before the funeral, He was carried to Morningside Baptist Church by the North Carolina Troopers Association Caisson Unit horse drawn wagon. And so all the deputies could attend the funeral, a swearing in took place so Valdosta police officers could handle the deputies' duties whiles they attended the funeral.

The support from the Valdosta police department was moving to Sheriff Paulk.

Now the procession leaves the church here on Connell road onto bemiss to north Valdosta then to the River View Cemetery.
