TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday marks two years since Omar Mateen walked into the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando and gunned down the crowd, killing 49 people.
Tuesday night, people in our area honored the victims with a vigil and remembrance outside the Old Florida State Capitol Building.
The vigil is about remembering the 49 men and women who died on this day two years ago, but it's also about a bigger message.
Organizers of the remembrance ceremony want to honor the shooting victims with action, by speaking about the ongoing social justice struggles of the LGBT community in Florida, around the country, and around the world.
Some activist believe politicians haven't done enough to create equality and prevent mass shootings from taking more lives.
This vigil is about pushing for change on a state level here in Florida.
The vigil started on the steps of the old Capitol and then moved to the covered area of the Senate Building.
