TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Officials from the National Science Foundation will visit the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (Mag Lab) at Florida State University and present the institution with a $168 million grant.
The five year renewal grant will be presented at the Mag Lab on Monday, February 4. Florida State President Eric J. Barron and Mag Lab Director Greg Boebinger are scheduled attend the event.
The Mag Lab operates jointly with the University of Florida and Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. About 350 scientists and support staff work at the facility, which is the only national laboratory in Florida.
Previously, the National Science Foundation approved a $156.7 million grant for the lab for 2008-2012. The new five-year grant represents a substantial increase in support for the facility, which attracts scientists from around the world and has a substantial economic impact on the region.
The Mag Lab also receives funding from the state of Florida.
