MIAMI (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard reported three incidents of lasers being pointed at two of their boats and a Dolphin rescue helicopter within the last three weeks, none of which resulted in any injuries.
An 87-foot patrol boat was hit Tuesday by a green laser reportedly coming from inland while patrolling near Sanibel Island. On the same day, a Dolphin rescue helicopter crew was struck by a green laser originating from land about a mile south of Punta Salina, Puerto Rico.
Another vessel reported a laser strike last month while it inspected a recreational boat around the Venetian Causeway in Miami.
A Coast Guard spokesman says pointing a laser at an aircraft is a federal crime, and doing it to a vessel could be, too.
