GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) - Children's Miracle Network in Tallahassee is getting ready for its annual Belt Buckle Ball, an event to raise money for North Florida and South Georgia families in need of pediatric care at Shand's Children's hospital.

Ranked by U.S. News and World Report, as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, Shands serves families and children across the state. As a member of the Children's Miracle Network's Alliance of premier hospitals for children, Shands receives money to implement programs throughout the hospital to minimize stress associated with hospital visits.

One of those projects is a ceiling tile project that allow patients to decorate tiles throughout the hospital with messages and art. The project was created by the Arts in Medicine program at Shands, the hospital also contains a child life and social work program that provide hospital activities, counseling, and nurse support for families. While these programs can't cure a child's sickness, many say they're just as important as treatment.

The annual Belt Buckle Ball will be held Friday, November 6th at the farm Equestion center in Tallahassee. Also at the event, people will be able to visit with Tallahassee area children and families that have benefited from Shands Medical Care thanks to fundraisers like as the Belt Buckle Ball.
