CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland police officer says three women rescued from a house where they were imprisoned for about 10 years were thin, pale and scared when she encountered them.

Officer Barbara Johnson says one of the victims was reluctant to leave her room at first while another had difficulty breathing at first.

Johnson says two of the victims jumped into her arms, crying "Save us, save us!"

Cleveland emergency room doctor Gerald Maloney testified that the women were emotionally distraught when they arrived at the hospital, and all explained how they had been repeatedly raped.

Their testimony came at Thursday's sentencing hearing for Ariel Castro. He pleaded guilty to 937 counts and stands to get life in prison plus 1,000 years.
