TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Midtown is a popular area of Tallahassee but finding parking there is an issue.
So Monday night, those who live or work in Midtown will learn more about a plan to get more parking there. That includes building a five-story parking garage.
The city has a public meeting Monday night in Midtown about those plans.
Many people say they need more information about what's possibly impacting their neighborhoods.
They said they worry about Midtown losing its local business charm and becoming more like Gaines Street, which is more commercialized.
The city says property owners and neighborhood groups have been asking for help with parking in the area.
The city has spent several years working on a solution, and now, there are two proposals for a garage.
The recommended bid is for a five-story garage that would have about 330 parking spots.
It would be on the corner of 5th Avenue and Thomasville Road. That's across from the Manor at Midtown.
Nothing has been finalized and the community gets a chance to chime in about what's being proposed.
Those we talked to said the recommended proposal is the wrong fit for the area.
"It's just really in the wrong location," said Rachelle McClure, Secretary of Lafayette Park Neighborhood Association.
The city said the current building code allows for a five-story garage. At this point, there's only one building in that zoned area that is five stories.
That's on Thomasville Road near 6th Avenue, where TMH used to have office space.
The meeting started at 5:30 p.m. at the Tallahassee Board of Realtors Office on Thomasville Road.
