TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Many people will bring in the new year by watching fireworks and if you've ever wondered how much goes into putting a display together, WTXL went behind the scenes on Sunday as the City of Tallahassee prepares for its official celebration.
It takes 12 hours to program the ten minute fireworks spectacular at Cascades Park.
The president of Ashley Pyrotechnics said the days of lighting a match to get things rolling are long gone.
Now, everything is done electronically. You can be standing a mile away, push a button, and the display begins instantly.
"This year, we're using what's called close proximity shells as well as regular shells. And then of course at the end, which is what everybody waits for, is the grand finale where there's just tons of stuff going off at the same time and it makes for a very pretty display," said Craig Dennis.
The pyrotechnics company said around 600 shells are incorporated into the New Year's Eve display.
This year, they're using new effects, but you'll have to come to the show to see them yourself.
It starts Monday, 7:00 p.m. sharp at Cascades Park.
