TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- On Friday, more than 500 pools in 20 different countries will be hosting the World's Largest Swimming Lesson. Jack McLean Aquatics Center will be one of those pools, hoping to raise awareness about the importance of swimming lessons when it comes to saving lives.
The swimming lesson will start at 10:30 a.m. but the pool is asking anyone planning to participate to show up for registration between 9:30 and 10 a.m.
Admission is free.
Drowning is the leading cause of unintended, injury related death for U.S. children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause for children under 14. According to research, formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged 1 to 4.
