TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The ethics board has a few new members after being appointed Wednesday night during the City Commission's meeting.
Mayor Andrew Gillum appointed Lila Jaber to the city's newly created 7 member ethics board.
The ethics board was created in November following an amendment to the city's charter adopted by voters with 67 percent voting yes to the charter, and 33 percent "no."
In addition, to Jaber, 3 other members were appointed including Cecil Davis, who was appointed by the state's attorney, and Richard Herring, who was appointed by the president of Florida State University.
The goal of this new board is to assist the commission in the development of standard ethics code.
The ethics board will manage a citywide ethics hotline, which will monitor allegations of local corruption, fraud, and mismanagement. The board will also coordinate mandatory diversity training of local officials, officers, and employees.
As members of the city commission, appointees have the authority to investigate citizen's complaints and issue civil penalties as needed.
The chief judge for the second judicial circuit declined to appoint a member.
At this time the board will only have 6 members. The future of the 7th member will be determined in the coming weeks.
