QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) - The city of Quincy honors a resident who helped save a man's life.
Darryl Figgers was one of the people who helped pull a man out of burning vehicle on Highway 90 near I-10 in Midway on May 13, 2016.
During Tuesday's Quincy city council meeting, council members presented Figgers with a proclamation for heroism.
They also named Tuesday, May 24 'Darryl Figgers day' in Quincy.
WTXL ABC27 interviewed him the day of that fire.
"And I told him, 'You're going to be all right,' and I just kept rubbing his back and kept rubbing the back 'til I got state troopers and everything there," explained Figgers, "and when the state trooper and the paramedic -- they say, 'You're doing a wonderful job. Just keep him stable.' And I kept rubbing the back to keep him calm and like I told him, I say, 'Don't worry about the wound. Thank God you are alive."
Troopers tell WTXL ABC27 when the RV got off the interstate onto Highway 90, it collided with two cars. A fire started inside that initial car and then spread to the RV, which had a propane tank.
Crews from three different fire departments helped in putting the fire out.
