MOULTRIE, Ga. (WTXL) - Our area is no stranger to severe weather.

In just the past year we have seen heavy storms roll in, knocking out power and taking down many trees.

That's why the City of Moultrie Utility and Public Works crews say are monitoring the weather conditions now, ready to help when needed.

The public works team has been cleaning storm drains and streets ahead of the heavy rain moving into the area. Utility crews say, their pole inspection and right of way programs operate year round to help with early planning as well.

With heavy rains come toppling trees, utility staff say, if you have a power outage make sure you call and let them know as some outages take longer than others to fix.

Public works crews in Moultrie say this is good experience for them to figure out what their plan of action is and what is the most efficient way to get the city restored after a storm.

Public works director Danny Ward says crews in Moultrie are always on standby for bad weather conditions.

"Every storm cloud has a silver lining, so we learn from our past, we learn how to prepare," said Ward. "We learn those areas that are more prone to flooding and then you start preparing for those. We are about as well prepared as we can be right now."

Moultrie Public Works Crews also stress the importance of the community staying up to date on the latest weather conditions. If there is heavy rain or strong winds, they suggest staying inside until it clears.

If you need to call someone with the City of Moultrie to report an outage or storm damage you can call the 24-hour call center at 229-668-6000.
