MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - City of Midway business went smoothly Monday.

Last year's budget was amended to balance it, and the upcoming year's budget was approved as was the property tax increase.

But residents made sure they sent a message to the council.

The council went back and forth about emergency personnel being based in Midway or assigned to Quincy. During Hurricane Irma, all first responders were housed at the County Emergency Operations Center, but residents said there should always be personnel closer to home.

The city manager says despite concerns from residents and those on the city council, the budget for the next fiscal year is balanced when you factor in the higher property taxes coming in.

The property tax levy was raised by $77,000. But the overall budget was 2.5 percent smaller than last year's.
