TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - Tallahassee City leaders are ready to review the budget for the next fiscal year but not before residents sounded off on a hot topic, property taxes.

The City Commission has agreed not to raise the mileage rate, but some residents are calling for a reduction back to the way it was before last year's hike. Residents say, while the city's spending has increased significantly, the same can't be said for overall wages.

Cathrine Baer with the Citizens for Responsible Spending says, "People are recovering from it they're no where near the recovering that the city is spending and we need to be very cognoscent of that their spending levels are even higher than the 2005 housing boom spending level and that's very concerning to business around here who are struggling to recover."

City leaders also announced preliminary results from a community survey about taxes.

The number one area where residents want to see taxpayer money go is "Police and Public Safety."

that was followed by roadway maintenance and parks and recreation.
