TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The city commission will discuss a measure meant to discourage drunk driving Wednesday night.
It would prohibit towing cars from properties that are licensed to sell alcohol during certain hours.
The ordinance gives citizens the opportunity to responsibly leave their vehicles without the threat of getting towed.
The proposal would ban towing between the hours of 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. at parking lots of establishments like Grasslands Brewing.
Owner Gabe Grass said he commends the commission for considering this measure.
"It's the responsibility of establishments that sell alcohol to advocate for responsible drinking," said Grass. "That's why we say, 'Don't worry about driving home out of fear of being towed, because you won't be towed.'"
"I've never really liked the idea of forcing somebody to take their cars out of here. You want them to feel safe -- that their possessions are safe whenever they visit an establishment," said Chris Eldridge, owner of Krewe De Gras. "Where some people could have an issue is daytime businesses that would suffer parking because there's still cars in the parking lot.
A public hearing about the ordinance would be set for April 26th at 6 p.m.
