TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee city commissioners met on Wednesday in hopes of revising the current public record policy.
This proposed change will be combining two older policies, the "public records policy" and "public retention policy," both of which were last reviewed in 2007.
This comes after a lawsuit that was filed in late 2017 against the now former City Manager Rick Fernandez.
Fernandez used his city issued phone to send and recieve text messages with a lobbyist regarding FSU football tickets. When these text messages were requested, the city was not able to provide them as they had been deleted from the phone and not retained.
The proposed policy change adds text messages and other electronic communication from city issued devices and emails to the list of items that can be kept and requested as public record.
