TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The city commission in Tallahassee is considering a measure that could address and prevent animal abuse in the capital city, by helping shelters and individuals who are looking to find forever homes for their pets an extra resource.

The commission is looking at creating a registry, that identifies those who have been found guilty of animal abuse, making the vetting process for perspective pet owners easier.

The Leon County Clerk of the Court would maintain the registry, and anyone would be able to check the list. Anyone who faced adjudication, Maddox says, for an animal abuse related offence would have to be listed on the document.
