TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee City Commissioner says, after a recent meeting, there needs to be some guidelines during public comment.

Tuesday's meeting was marked by several speakers ignoring the three-minute limit for comment.

One person approached the commissioners' platform and handed out material.

Commissioner Curtis Richardson said some citizens have made personal attacks against commissioners and their families and it's time to do something about it.

"In today's times, with what we're dealing with, with random acts of violence, we want to make sure that everyone who visits our City Commission Chambers are safe - particularly the commissioners and staff - and so, I just think we need to establish some type of protocol," he said.

Mayor Andrew Gillum agreed with Richardson, saying something has to be done.
