City Commission To Allow TPD To Buy New Patrol Cars

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department's request for 40 new patrol cars was approved by the city commission Monday.

According to meeting agenda, the police department placed a request to purchase 40 new Ford Interceptor marked police patrol vehicles from Garber Auto Mall. The cost per vehicle is about $22,500, with a total cost of $899,440 for all 40 vehicles, according the TPD's request.

In addition to the new vehicles, TPD's request for emergency response equipment, prisoner containment modules and mobile computer equipment will also be purchased and installed for about $268,000.

The agenda also says that "all vehicles scheduled for replacement are well beyond their life cycle as defined by City policy."

The total cost for the vehicles and equipment will be a little more than $1.1 million.
