PERRY, Fla. (WTXL) - Officials are reporting an active hazardous materials spill in Perry.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management is reporting that over 7,000 gallons of citric acid has spilled so far at the Georgia Pacific Foley Plant on 1 Buckeye Dr in Perry.
They said that around 10:30 a.m., a caller said that a valve on a storage tank had opened, releasing citric acid into containment. However, a hole in the containment caused the hazardous materials to release onto the dirt.
Officials say that right now, there are no storm drains, waterways, or major roads being affected by the spill.
They said that the citric acid is still spilling and that they are unsure of the potential environmental impact.
