VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - As the opioid epidemic continues, thousands of children in Georgia are seeing direct effects.
As of March, 41 percent of children in the state's care, were taken from their parents because of drug abuse.
According to Southwestern Circuit Juvenile Court Judge Lisa Jones she and other area judges are seeing opioids bring more parents into their courtrooms.
"It's very hard to beat it, because, as parents we all know that there's no stronger bond than a parent with a child and when you lose your child you know temporarily or forever because of some substance that you cannot gain control over, it's tragic," said Jones.
Judge Jones says it's a problem that needs to be solved.
