BRADENTON, Fla. --Bradenton police have confirmed that the body of a child has been discovered in Manatee County.
Investigators suspect it could be the body of missing 11-year-old Janiya Thomas.
Police say Janiya's family members saw recent news reports and unlocked a freezer that was dropped off earlier this week by Keishanna Thomas, Janiya's mother, and an unidentified male. The family found a body inside the freezer and contacted authorities.
Authorities are not revealing the location of the home.
Janiya has not been in school or seen by anyone for months. When her mother was asked about her daughter's whereabouts, she refused to answer.
Thomas was taken into custody for contempt of court. She remains at the Manatee County Jail.
Janiya is one of five children. Child Protective Services removed the four other children from the home.
