GADSDEN CO., Fla. -- A child is dead after a Sunday afternoon traffic crash that happened just north of Quincy.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision happened on State Road 267, or Bainbridge Highway, north of Kenon Lane.

Troopers say that 20-year-old Quineasia L. Williams was driving a 1997 GMC 1500 northbound on the road. The other vehicle involved, a 2005 Ford F250, was southbound.  That vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Katherine King, according to troopers.

For unknown reasons, troopers say Williams' truck crossed the center line and into the path of King's vehicle. They say that King tried to avoid hitting Williams, but was unable to do so.

As a result of the collision, Williams and a young passenger were thrown from the vehicle. According to troopers, they were not wearing seat belts. Williams was critically injured and taken to a local hospital. The child, 9-year-old Makayla Woodard, died.

The other driver, King, was wearing her seat belt; she was seriously injured.

Troopers say that it is currently unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
