LANIER COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)--The Georgia State Patrol is trying to find out who hit a child while ignoring a stopped school bus loading children.
Troopers say at 7:05 a.m. Monday morning, they were called to a hit and run accident on GA 125 near Moody Drive in Lanier County. They say children were getting onto a Lanier County school bus in front of Bennett Mobile Home Park, north of Walker's Crossing in the southbound lane of GA 125. The school bus was being driven by 67-year-old Raymond Smith. Troopers say a four-year-old child was crossing the road when a car traveling north on GA 125 hit the child, and disregarded the stopped school bus that had red lights flashing as well as its stop sign displayed. Troopers say the car then left the scene. No other child was hurt.
Witnesses saw a silver or white mid-size passenger car with damage to the passenger side and headlight area left the area. If anyone witnessed the crash or has any information on the vehicle, you are asked to call Cpl. David Sellars at the Georgia State Patrol Post 31 at 229-333-5215.
