ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Former Florida governor Charlie Crist will announce a bid for Congress on Tuesday.
A release from Kevin Cate, an adviser to Crist’s failed 2014 bid for governor, says Crist is set to make a major announcement in St. Petersburg this week.
Politico reports Crist will likely run for Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which covers Pinellas County. Republican David Jolly currently represents the district.
The new seat includes many of South St. Peterburg’s black, Democratic leaning voters.
Crist left the Republican Party in 2010. He joined the Democratic Party and ran for Florida governor in 2014, losing to Rick Scott.
Crist served as the 44th governor of Florida from 2007 until 2011.
