TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Although Cyber Monday is in full swing, charities in the Big Bend area are gearing up for Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday is celebrated around the world in hopes of people opening up their pockets and their hearts to thousands of charities.
Floridians gave nearly $80 billion to roughly 16,000 charitable organizations last year.
Giving Tuesday started in 2012, and according to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Big Bend, Tuesday is a special day for non-profit organizations.
Alva Striplin, CEO of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Big Bend said, every little bit helps.
"This is a special day for non profits. We have such great community support and we help so many people, so many non profits in the big bend region that do so much for so many people and this is the time of year that we reach out to people that might have a little extra to give and say "hey don't forget us on this day and don't forget the people that we serve, they would greatly appreciate anything that you give," said Striplin.
They're looking forward to the charitable season that focuses on holiday and end of the year giving.
